Conservation

Caring for a small piece of the Lowveld

Induli Khaya is our home, but it is also a living landscape. Our approach to conservation is simple: care for the land well, protect the wildlife that uses it, and make thoughtful decisions that allow the property to grow wilder and healthier over time.

The land

Shaped by the Lowveld

Induli Khaya lies in the Mpumalanga Lowveld, within a landscape of grassland, wooded areas, rocky outcrops and seasonal drainage lines. It is a place shaped by natural processes, changing seasons and the mix of habitats that support a surprising variety of life.

From open areas and thickets to wet-season water and quiet corners of bush, the property provides space for wildlife, birds, reptiles and smaller animals to move through and make use of the landscape.

The Wildlife

Shared with the wild

Induli Khaya is home to a mix of larger herbivores and free-ranging wild residents. Some are seen often, while others are far more elusive.

Zebra, wildebeest, nyala and impala move through the landscape alongside smaller and more secretive neighbours such as serval, honey badger, red duiker, Meller’s mongoose, reptiles and a wide variety of birdlife.

Much of the wildlife here goes about its business quietly and unseen, which is part of what makes the property so special.

Restoration & Management

Restoring, protecting and managing with care

Conservation here is mostly about the everyday work of looking after the land. We clear invasive plants, protect indigenous vegetation, monitor the wildlife that moves through the property and manage the veld as carefully as we can.

There is no grand end point. We just want Induli Khaya to become healthier, more resilient and a little wilder over time.

A glimpse of what moves through Induli Khaya

Conservation at Induli Khaya is not about doing everything. It is about doing what we can, where we are, with care, consistency and a long view.

Leave it better than we found it.
